The Alberta North Zone is an informally defined region encompassing most of the geographic area north of Edmonton. The approximately 386,0000 residents live in communities such as Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie (the main centers of the North Zone), as well as smaller communities like Whitecourt, Athabasca, Hinton, Edson, Mayerthorpe, Westlock, Cold Lake, Peace River, High Level, and High Prairie.

The primary industries in northern Alberta are forestry, oil, and gas.

There are 10 Primary Care Networks in the Alberta North Zone.

Position Summary

The North Zone Coordinator, Family Medicine Attraction and Retention is a key support role for the North Zone PCNs Business Unit and North Zone Primary Care Networks (PCNs).

The Coordinator develops plans and implements activities that support the effective and efficient functioning of a strategic recruitment program within the Alberta North Zone. The Coordinator works in partnership with North Zone PCNs, community partners, AHS Medical Affairs teams, North Zone Physicians, and local medical clinics to understand healthcare objectives and develop and implement strategies for appropriate physician recruitment. This position requires the ability to have a comprehensive understanding of business processes. The Coordinator must have the ability to apply best practices and knowledge, regarding internal organization and external industry challenges, to develop and improve processes in order to positively impact the healthcare of Albertans in the North Zone.

What you will do...
  • Design and implement the overall recruiting strategy for the North Zone Primary Care Networks
  • Source and attract candidates by using databases, social media etc.
  • Facilitate and potentially conduct interviews and filter candidates for open positions
  • Create and update job descriptions
  • Write recruiting emails for passive candidates
  • Liaise with communities that already have established attraction and retention committees, or perhaps aide in development of local committees
  • Attend medical conferences to network and seek out new graduates
  • Maintain database of medical clinics in need of doctors
  • Collaborate on developing and maintaining promotional materials and web resources with the North Zone Communications Lead
  • Work with AHS Medical Affairs for any physicians/primary care providers working in hospitals or AHS sites
  • Promote the North Zone area and specific communities, share knowledge of what individual communities have to offer, e.g. housing, recreation, amenities, etc.
  • Welcome new physicians to communities
  • Ability to work independently as well as with other committees
  • Acquire knowledge of the organization, immigration requirements and procedures, CPSA policies, and licensing requirements and processes
  • Gather all documentation as necessary
  • Manage all general inquiries of foreign physicians wishing to relocate to Canada
  • Identify and build relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, interpret their needs, assess requirements and identify solutions
  • Will be required to travel to sites within the North Zone to develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
What you need to succeed...
  • Physical location within the North Zone
  • A minimum of a post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources Management or Business Administration
  • Health Care Management experience, a solid understanding of health care industry is required
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Ability to inspire and instill confidence in a large diverse group
  • Working knowledge of Alberta Primary Care systems
  • Previous experience with recruitment
  • Ability to manage projects or programs with minimal to moderate resource requirements, risk, and complexity
  • Ability to monitor and control costs related to own work. May manage costs for moderate projects or programs
  • Working knowledge of immigration and recruitment legislation, policies, processes
  • Working knowledge of office software databases (Outlook, Excel, Word) to respond to action requests, to prepare and edit correspondence, and respond to stakeholder inquiries,
  • Knowledge of political sensitivities and the diverse interests of diverse stakeholders
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  •  Valid Driver’s License and vehicle required
